Staff so friendly they made an effort to come over and chat with us and meet our dog. Have not experienced such a relaxing visit to the pub with our pooch anywhere else on our travelsvin the UK. Where do I start? The Fox and Hounds, Theale has got it all. Jayne and Miles and their Team give you and your dog/s the warmest of welcomes. Treats are close at hand on the bar alongside the doggy menu with choice of drinks (Bum Sniffer beer is Poppy’s usual). You’ll find plenty of water bowls and a bed or two if you get in early. If you’re really lucky, the little teepee might be free. I love it! Menu for humans is varied and the food is very tasty; Sunday roasts and pies and the desserts are favourites for us. Service is great and not rushed but if you’re in a hurry or on lunch break, you can ring ahead to book and order. If you want to work up an appetite or stretch your legs after your meal, Hosehill Lake is opposite for a lovely walk round. The Fox and Hounds, Theale is THE Best Dog-Friendly Pub without a doubt.
More than just dog friendly: doggy dinners, Pawsecco, doggy ice cream, paddling pool for fur babies to cool off when it’s warm, dog beds & bowls. Humans are looked after too with super food and lovely fires and a warm welcome by friendly staff who are a great working team. There are lots of events at the pub and good local walks. Highly recommended.
Dogs welcome with well-behaved owners 🙂 The Fox and Hounds is the essence of a dog-friendly pub. The dogs are welcomed on an equal basis with their human companions. We have been offered towels {for the dogs} on rainy days and the plentiful supply of water bowls means no sharing required. Our pampered pooch absolutely loves the free gravy bones and dribbles in anticipation of getting some. She also highly recommends the chips. This is a favourite lunch spot foloowing a walk along the nearby Kennet and Avon canal. If only all “dog-friendly” pubs were this genuinely dog friendly. Highly recommended with or without a 4-legged friend – great selection of beers, wines and gin accompanied by delicious freshly cokked food. Keep up the good work.
When we arrived for Sunday lunch Oscar my friend’s dog seemed to know the booking had been made in his name as well! The 3 of us were given a warm welcome and Oscar loved the line-up of 5 large drinking bowls right by the entrance. Great pub!
Visited for lunch with our two dogs on Monday lunchtime. Staff very friendly and helpful. Dogs had a paddling pool to chill in. Food and Service was good. Very pleasant walk around Hosehill Lake nature reserve just across the road

Had a great lunch with my friend today, chicken pie is highly recommended and just how a pie should be! Our dog was made to feel like VIP with lots of attention and fuss from all of the team, even a luxurious bed was made available for him to snooze on. He thoroughly enjoyed his doggy ice-cream, we’ll definitely be going back soon. Thanks to everyone for such a lovely lunch and welcome.
Quick friendly service, great food. Always dog treats, water and a friendly welcome. We are also invited to park in the car park when we are dog walking, even if we do not go in the pub for food or drink.

The staff and Jayne are always friendly and helpful go out of their way to welcome you with both smiling faces and good customer service. Food is very good and i would recommend to anyone to go try it for yourself it is worth it.

Fantastic doggy friendly pub – even if been on a muddy walk they are all so welcoming & even have special doggy icecream ! Sadly our 15 month old Labrador “Marley” was tragically run over on 30th July & killed ! The Fox & Hounds loved Marley & made such a fuss of him ! We have 2 new puppies now & can,t wait to introduce them to the wonderful team xx

The Fox and Hounds is one of the best dog friendly pubs I know – and I know most of them!! You get excellent service and food. In fact were having Xmas lunch there this year (prob with dog!)
We arrived at the pub for lunch in the garden today and we had a very muddy dog. I was trying to rub her down and I was given a bucket of warm soapy water and a bucket of warm water to rinse. Not only was the service great but the food was delicious too. Very happy customer and dog.
There’s nothing me and my dog enjoy more than a stroll around the idyllic Hosehill Lake nature reserve, then just crossing over the road to probably the most canine friendly pub we’ve ever visited.
The hospitality at the Fox & Hounds is fantastic. My little dog always has such a fuss made of her, but it’s not JUST a dog pub. There’s good quality, reasonable priced food (I recommend the fish and chips), with a strong selection of real ales.
After enjoying the wild flower meadow to the East side of the lake, and watching the diverse range of bird life (in particular, I adore the cormorants), a visit to The Fox & Hounds is the perfect ending to a perfect walk.
It’s a definite change because last time I took my dog we had to sit in the garden area! It was OK as it was a sunny evening. The Volunteer in Church Street has been dog friendly with free treats and nibbles from the kitchen for the past 4 years
Our dog 3 adorable pets one of which is a champion show dog was treated by the landlady and her staff as good as my self and my wife where.plenty of fresh water and yummy doggy

The Fox and Hounds Pub in Theale is really lovely from sitting out in the garden for a drink or eating a lovely meal with a group of friends inside, you Receive a very warm welcome from all the staff, and so do your dogs. Bowls of water are ready and waiting and biscuits on the bar, i really recommend The Fox especially if you have dogs. A great friendly pub for all your family

26 September 2016 at 6:40amThe Fox and Hounds Pub in Theale is really lovely from sitting out in the garden for a drink or eating a lovely meal with a group of friends inside, you Receive a very warm welcome from all the staff, and so do your dogs. Bowls of water are ready and waiting and biscuits on the bar, i really recommend The Fox especially if you have dogs. A great friendly pub for all your family
